Winnsboro, SC (WLTX) ---Fairfield Central has pulled off two upsets on the road to start the 3A football playoffs and the point man for the Griffin offense is a leader on and off the field.
Najahwan McKinstry is the quarterback of the Griffin offense, which means everything starts with him., In the classroom, McKinstry makes sure he executes in that environment as well. He currently has the seventh highest GPA in the senior class.
First year head coach Demetrius Davis was familiar with McKinstry before he took the job. As an assistant at South Carolina State, one of Davis' areas of recruiting was his alma mater.
When he took over the job of leading the football program, he gave McKinstry the responsibility of running the Griffin offense. Davis says when he first met McKinstry that this was the type of player and person who he wanted representing Fairfield Central.
Davis even joked that he is going to petition the South Carolina High School League to let McKinstry, a senior, play another year.
It's that kind of impact that has made McKinstry a News19 Player of the Week.
