Summerton, SC (WLTX) --- The season for the Lakewood Gators ended earlier than they wanted, especially for the seniors like Chad Richardson.

But Richardson is grateful he was able to take part in the final games of the season which saw Lakewood win a school-best eight games.

The defensive end suffered an ankle sprain and missed five games. But even when he was on the sidelines, Richardson was at practice serving as a leader - something that was comforting to second-year head coach Chris Collins.

Once Richardson returned to full strength, he was back in the lineup for the Gators whose season ended with a 24-21 loss to Airport last week in the 3A playoffs.

But Richardson has no regrets because he says he gave football everything it had and he hopes he isn't through competing. Chad is hoping someone at the next level will give him a shot. If it doesn't work out, Chad's grades will open up more than a few doors.

He is currently ranked fourth in the senior class and he keeps a busy schedule that includes playing the piano at his church and singing in the choir.

One of the most well-rounded student-athletes you will find, Chad Richardson is this week's News19 Player of the Week.
