Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- Craig Fitzgerald, who Steve Spurrier said was the best strength coach he's ever worked with, has resigned his position at USC, reportedly to become the football strength coach at Penn State.

Fitzgerald, who had been at USC for the past three seasons, came to Columbia after four years at the head strength coach at Harvard.

He is the second USC coach to depart for State College following John Butler who left after just one season in Columbia.

USC didn't waste any time naming a replacement for Fitzgerald, promoting assistant strength coach Joe Connolly.
