Sen. Phil Leventis Won't Seek Re-Election

Sumter, SC (WLTX) - One of the Midlands longest-serving senator's won't seek re-election.

Sen. Phil Leventis, a Democrat who represents Sumter and Lee Counties, confirmed Friday he's leaving the State House.

He's represented District 35 for 32 years.

During his time in office, Leventis ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor in 2002 and flew combat missions during Desert Storm in 1991.

In a statement, Leventis says he will be forever grateful for the opportunity and priviledge he was given to serve the citizens of our grate state.
