Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police and the fire department detonated a suspicious package that was found at the post office in Five Points.

The situation began at 10:15 a.m. at the location at 2108 Greene Street when a postal worker saw the item inside the facility.

The building was then evacuated, and a portion of Greene Street was closed while crews investigated.

A bomb robot went into the building and retrieved the package, and the decision was made to detonate the object. After investigation, officials concluded the package was a hoax and was never a danger to the community.

No one injured during the incident, and the roads have reopened.
