Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Richland Northeast Principal Sabrina Suber says her school is cutting cabinet making and auto collision repair classes at the end of the year.

"We are trying to provide courses and programs our kids have an interest in," said Suber.

After surveying students, Suber plans to replace the shop classes with food and hospitality classes.

Columbia cabinet maker Jim McGrew is trying to save the programs and planned to speak to Richland School Board members Tuesday night.

"Shop class has been around for as long as I can remember, it is the base structure for cabinet making, plumbing and electrical," said McGrew.

McGrew is hoping they can meet in the middle to save the cabinet making classes.
