Gilbert, SC (WLTX) - A Gilbert Elementary 5th grader invited his classmates to Skype with his Dad serving in Kuwait with the National Guard.
Nick Hartley's father left to go overseas on his second tour 8 months ago.
"We haven't skyped in a while," said Sandy Hartley, Nick's mother. "His class was very interested in skyping Troy because, I guess they heard Nick talk about how we Skype."
The family normally talks on the phone because of the time difference but try at least once a month to Skype.
Nick's dad showed the students around the camp and some soda cans that are labeled with Arabic words.
"I like it because they have the american writing and then how they have to write it there," said Nick's younger sister Tory Hartley. "I get to talk with him a lot but don't get to skype with him too much at home. At least we get to see him. It's just like having him in the bedroom."
"I think it's real cool. It's great that we have the technology to do this because we didn't have that in 2005," said Sandy Hartley.
