(WLTX) --- Melvin Ingram was the second player from USC chosen in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Ingram was selected by the Chargers with the 18th selection. He joins Stephon Gilmore, who was drafted with the 10th selection by the Buffalo Bills.

A defensive end, Ingram was a consensus first-team All-American this season. He had 10 sacks, 15 tackles for a loss, a fumble return for a touchdown and a punt return score.

He was considered to be one of the premier pass rushers in this year's draft and thought to be headed to the Jets who were in the market for a defensive end.

But the Jets went for someone from the other Carolina as in North Carolina's Quinton Coples with the 16th selection.

That means Ingram will be playing on the West Coast for Norv Turner who is more known as an offensive-minded coach.
