Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police say a car carrying four people that crashed last month---killing all inside--was traveling 90 miles an hour at the time of the collision.
A traffic collision report completed by officers was released Tuesday about the collision which took place January 19th along George Rogers Boulevard.
Four people died in the collision: Billings S. Fuess IV, age 22; Kelsey C. Harris, age 23; Brian M. McGrath, age 22; and Melinda S. Pipp, age 24.
Harris and McGrath were University of South Carolina students, and Fuess was a former student. Previous Coverage: 4 Killed in Car Crash Included USC Students
Investigators say McGrath was driving the vehicle at 4:54 a.m. when the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway where the street curves and struck the Farm Bureau Insurance building at 960 George Rogers Boulevard. After the impact, the vehicle burst into flames.
In the report, the investigator concluded the vehicle was traveling too fast for conditions. Police say the posted speed limit in that area is 40 miles an hour.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said last month it appeared the four would have been dead before the vehicle caught fire.
