Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- Former Gamecocks David Ross and Branden Conrad have seen big-time basketball up close and personal and those experiences are being utilized heavily at Cardinal Newman High School.
Ross is in his seventh season as an assistant coach for the Cardinals, while Conrad is in his first. The two have meshed nicely with head coach Kevin Rose and the results speak for themselves - Cardinal Newman is one of the top SCISA teams in the state.
Ross has a few more years of coaching under his belt that Conrad. After his career at USC ended in 2001, he spent a couple of years as an assistant at Keenan before his move to Cardinal Newman.
Conrad, who graduated in 2009, was asked by Ross if he would be interested in working on the Cardinals' staff and that's when Conrad jumped at the opportunity.
Both men say coaching has allowed them to stay involved in a game they have played for years and while their playing days are over, their passion for the sport remains as intense as ever.
